“Ma’am, do you feel centered?”
A couple of months ago, I had a medical test performed. I entered the room and was asked to lie down on the table. I did so and the attendant proceeded to prepare me and the equipment for the test. The young man then looked into my face and asked, “Ma’am, do you feel centered?”
I felt a smile creep onto my face as I looked at him. I replied, “I assume you are referring to being centered on the table and not being centered in life?”
I nearly laughed as his expression became quizzical and he even slightly tilted his head in question. To avoid further awkwardness, I quickly replied, “Yes. Yes, I feel centered on the table”.
This encounter replayed over and over in my mind, causing me to question…..Am I centered in my life? Am I centered in the middle of the table of life or too close to the edge? What does it truly mean to be centered? But more importantly, what have I placed in the center and then built my life around? Am I living a Christ centered life?
In my Pilates classes, we often do an exercise series while working on our balancing skills. I have found if I find a focal point in front of me, holding my vision steady on that point as I begin the series, I am able to maintain my balance. Isn’t the same true for life? When we find ourselves in a challenging time, do we use Christ as our focal point, making Him our center and holding our vision steadily on Him, enabling us to maintain our balance?
It is my belief that the things we spend the most time and energy on represent the focus, priority or center of our lives. While my life and who I am is based on my faith, I now wonder if I am doing enough to always be Christ centered. Do I spend enough time in quiet prayer? Am I reading and studying His word as I should? This recent encounter has challenged me to become more aware of what I make as my priorities, more aware of what I spend the most time and energy on. Am I always striving to have my focus and priority on Christ? Am I making Him the absolute center of my life?
How about you? Do you feel centered? Is Christ the center of your life?
Join me in challenging yourself and looking inward. Evaluating your priorities, time and focus. Striving to make Christ your focal point…..holding your gaze steadily on Him…..placing and keeping Him at the very center of your life.
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
